Master of Fine Arts: Specialization in Publicness and Entrepreneurship in Film

Master of Fine Arts in film with specialisation in Publicness and Entrepreneurship is mainly intended for students with a degree within the filmic field that is in the process of developing and establishing their business.

  • Title: Master of Fine Arts in film with specialisation in Publicness and Entrepreneurship
  • Duration: One-year full-time programme
  • Credits / ECTS: 60 ECTS
  • Schools / Organizations: Valand Academy, University of Gothenburg
  • Participants: To be eligible to apply you need a Bachelor’s degree of Arts in media, fine arts, film or film studies and need to have taken at least 180 credits or you need similar documented experience of working artistically within the field of film. This knowledge and these skills are tested during the enrollment process.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Publicness and entrepreneurship deals with the social and economical aspects of filmmaking, financing, showings and how to organize business in such ways that new production forms can develop. The studies are based upon the students own business and aim to deepen the filmmaker’s knowledge of entrepreneurial activities. This can be defined as the ability to identify possibilities and create resources making it possible to carry through ideas in public. Included in this are studies in film- and cultural politics, how social media can be used and also methods of using film educationally.

Central to this are the terms: network, teamwork, organization, economy, law practice, intellectual property, financing, leadership, market communication, labor laws, and also knowledge about the development of new professional roles, as that of the curator within the field of sound and the moving image.

The programme consists of mandatory course parts; group tutorials in the form of filmic discussions, seminars, lectures and self-studies of the project one has formulated.
