COURSE DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the course is to provide students with knowledge and practical tools in selected areas related to professionalize themselves as a performing arts professional person.
The course includes two parts, Part 1 and Part 2.
Themes Part 1:
1: Start-up – what does professionalisation? Which areas are selected for this course? And how can you work with professionalism in parallel with the work of the artistic work? (Definition: it is to promote a development which provide people with professional experience and skill in a particular area a special position)
2: Authorization Systems in Denmark focusing on Danish Arts Foundation Project Funding Committee for the Performing Arts and selected funds from Denmark and Scandinavia. What to know, who you have to know and which approach should be given to the systems?
3: Written communication – what does it mean to professionalize writing? In what ways can we work with the written as a part of our work and in preparation as well as in dedicated applications and project descriptions?
4: Application – concrete tools and techniques for writing project descriptions and application materials.
Themes in Part 2:
1: Accounting and financial management – what should be accounted for in relation to accounting, what do we need of accounting knowledge, and how can we work professionally and controllable with a budget?
2: Pricing and negotiation – how can we train ourselves to put the price of our knowledge, services and time? How can we train ourselves to negotiate within an industry, which is filled with a lot of different traditions and ways of working?
3: Be visible – what does it mean to talk about a project to others? What techniques can we use, and how we can train ourselves to articulate our vision and thoughts so clearly that others can understand them and will want to contribute (financially, cooperative terms or otherwise)?
4: Pitching and feedback – as an extension of the third teaching session ‘Be visible’ and on the basis of the students’ specific projects (KUA, performances, other) we have a pitching session where you get the chance to practice how to express yourselves orally at the time and have fellow students’ feedback.
5: Start a business – in which different ways can you work? And how can you investigate options for different modes and forms of enterprise, while still a student?
